Withrow Tigers remain winless
after 22 – 7 loss to Taft
Taft senior
Teron Hill played more like a mountain in Senators win.
by Bret Sims
Withrow started the scoring on a
38-yard touchdown pass from junior Ryan Banks to senior running
back Leonard Riston who made a great one-handed catch en route
to the end zone early in the second quarter.
The Tigers score came on the heels
of a fumble recovery by linebacker Aaron Pugh who jumped on the
loose ball after teammate Tim Welch knocked the ball free from
Taft’s quarterback Cameron Mitchell.
Ryan Bank’s was set to extend
Withrow’s lead to 13-0 when Taft’s Teron Hill intercepted the
pass three yards deep in the end zone, making an impressive
103-yard dash to the other end to score and bring the Senator’s
to within one point pending the extra point.
“I dropped back, the defensive line got some pressure, he threw
it up, I got it and took it to the house,” Hill said. “I wasn’t
going to drop it.”
Hill, who wasn’t even listed on the
roster due to undisclosed reasons wasted no time in putting his
team ahead for good when he scooped up a fumble by Withrow’s
Leonard Riston as he raced 42-yards for his second touchdown of
the game.
Taft improved their record to 2-2
on the season while Withrow fell to 0-4.
In the end the Tigers were unable
to overcome seven turnovers that spelled their doom while
providing the best game of his life for the Senators Teron Hill.
