Cardinals Roast Bluebirds in
Battle of No. 1
Sophomore
running backs roll up 424 yards and 4 TD’s
by Bret Sims
Sophomore running back Tyler
Williams ran over and around the Bluebird defense as he carried
the ball 15 times for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
“They made some good runs against us, but that’s just a tough
thing to prevent when you are playing a great team like
Colerain, said Highlands coach Dale Mueller.
Traylor Durham, the sophomore fullback for Colerain kept pace
with Williams by rushing for 184 yards and two touchdowns of his
own on 21 carries.
Colerain came into the game ranked No. 1 in Cincinnati after
replacing 18 starters who graduated a year ago. In what was
supposed to be a significant rebuilding year they have managed
to start the season with a 3-0 record.
Tony Guidugli who had previously predicted a Bluebird victory
ended the game 18 for 27 passing for 159 yards and an
interception. Guidugli did manage to use his legs to get into
the end zone as part of a 158 yard rushing performance.
Colerain continues to build on their 32-game regular season
winning streak and their 44-game home-field winning streak with
their win over Kentucky’s Class 5A champion.
The game wasn’t as close as the final score appears as Highlands
added two TD’s near the end of the game when the game was firmly
in hand for Colerain with a 33-6 lead.
Highlands has a very good team and will be even better once last
year’s leading rusher Josh Conner is back on the field. Conner
broke his leg earlier this season and will miss the first 4 to 6
weeks of the season.
