It was a clean sweep for Cincinnati schools and
players at the Ohio boys’ state tennis tournament at Stickney Tennis
Center at The Ohio State University.
In Division I, junior Matt Allare of Kings defeated
Sandy Berry of Sycamore 6-2, 6-2 in an all-Cincinnati final to win the
singles championship. Allare did not lose one set in his march to the
title. Patrick Bandy and Jon Gaffney of St. Xavier defeated teammates
John Drosick and Kris Mehan 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to win the Division I doubles
title.
In Division II, Chris Herrlinger of Cincinnati
Country Day defeated Stephen Havens of CHCA 6-2 for the Division II
singles title. Havens was unbeaten on the season heading into the final
but had to retire from the match because of illness. The Indian Hill
duo of Vinad Mahilinngam and Devon McCarthy won the Division II doubles
title by defeating New Albany 6-2, 6-3. |
