It was a big day for many of the higher-ranked division II and III teams in the fast-pitch sectional tournament yesterday as six teams moved on.

Top-ranked and top-seeded Ross rolled past Norwood 19-0 in five innings in Division II behind a two-hit, 10-strikeout performance by junior Anna Smith (20-1), who won her 20th game of the season.

No. 2 Blanchester needed four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to get by Goshen, 8-6.

McNicholas sophomore pitcher Ronnie Ferris pitched a one-hit, complete game shutout to lead the No. 5 Rockets to an 8-0 win over Taylor.  Ferris took a no hitter into the seventh inning with two outs before Taylor connected on a single down the right field line.  Ferris (12-6) ended the game with 11 strikeouts and accounted for 15 of the Rockets’ putouts.

In a mild upset, No. 9 Western Brown defeated No. 3 CNE 6-3 while No. 8 New Richmond defeated Wyoming 1-0 in five innings.

In Division III play, No. 10-ranked Madeira defeated Ripley 5-1 and No. 7 seeded Bethel-Tate blanked Mariemont 12-0.
