Firebirds beat St. Xavier 58-53 in semifinals

Lakota West rallied from a seven-point fourth quarter deficit to beat St. Xavier 58-53 in a Division I regional semifinal contest at Xavier University’s Cintas Center on Thursday night.

The Firebirds (23-2), ranked No. 1 in Cincinnati all season and No. 8 in the state, out-scored the Bombers 21-11 in the fourth quarter.  Senior Josh Chichester scored 20 points and hauled in 14 rebounds to lead West.  Senior forward Vince Cook (16 points, nine rebounds) and senior forward Todd Mayberry (14 points) turned in strong performances for the Firebirds.

St. Xavier senior forward David Gedeon scored a game-high 27 points but no other Bomber player was in double figures in scoring.

Lakota West will play Trotwood-Madison on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. with a trip to the state semifinals on the line.
